BRIEFCASE BOMB AT DELHI HIGH COURT GATE NO. 5: 15 LITIGANTS KILLED, 79 MAIMED
IED Detonates at Pass Reception Counter in High-Security VIP Zone in Heart of Capital
At 10:14 AM on Wednesday, 7 September 2011, a powerful IED concealed in a briefcase exploded outside Gate No. 5 of the Delhi High Court, where hundreds of ordinary citizens and lawyers were queueing up for entry passes.
15 people were killed and nearly 80 suffered severe burns and blast fractures.
The strike occurred despite a previous low-intensity car blast outside the same court four months earlier in May 2011, showing that Delhi Police had installed zero metal detectors or perimeter surveillance at the pass counters.
