On Saturday evening, 26 July 2008, 21 synchronized bomb blasts ripped through bus stands, markets, and public squares across Ahmedabad within 70 minutes.
In a particularly sinister act of terrorism, the terrorists planted a large car bomb right outside the Trauma Ward and Blood Bank of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, timed to detonate when doctors and injured victims of the earlier blasts arrived.
Minutes before the explosions, an email titled "The Rise of Jihad" was sent by Indian Mujahideen to national media channels boasting of the attack.
