27 CRPF JAWANS SLAIN IN NARAYANPUR FORESTS IN DEADLY MAOIST AMBUSH
Maoists Fire from Hilltop Bunkers with Mortars & LMGs on Returning 39th Bn Patrol
On 29 June 2010, barely two months after the Dantewada tragedy, 27 CRPF personnel from the 39th Battalion were martyred in the dense Dhaudai forests of Narayanpur, Chhattisgarh.
A 63-member patrol was pinned down by over 150 Maoist fighters firing from fortified hilltop positions with light machine guns and mortar shells.
The ambush reinforced the acute tactical deficit, absence of drone surveillance, and delayed medical evacuation facing security forces in the central Indian tribal belt.
