Cash Paid by Railway Board Member for Lucrative Post in ₹10 Crore Appointment Racket
On 3 May 2013, the CBI arrested Vijay Singla, the nephew of Union Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, in Chandigarh while accepting a cash bribe of ₹90 Lakh.
The bribe was the first installment of a ₹10 Crore deal paid by Railway Board member Mahesh Kumar to secure the plum posting of Member (Electrical) with charge of multi-crore signaling contracts.
The wiretaps revealed direct involvement of the Minister's official residence and family network, forcing Bansal to resign within days.
